I Got A Question...Could It Be Love?

"Can it be true? Whatever it was...can it be you? Whatever it was I seen last time I dreamed I knew what I would do. Can it be love?"

I am so in love with this track off of Blu's latest album. This whole album is centered around a soulful and rhythmic heavy mood. I've probably said this before on here - or at least to my fellow hip hop heads. I am yours if you can rap over an amazing melody....especially something jazzy/soulful.

Female MCs

I've never actually enjoyed too many female MCs out there...although, I will always have a spot in my heart for Salt 'N Pepa, Jean Grae (an amazing storyteller) and Lauryn Hill (even though she don't like us white folks) as well as Queen Latifah (I mean, she's an amazing business woman...with a solid career singing jazz standards...now ladies, thats a first) and Monie Love (Jungle Brothers, what what?!?)...but DON'T get me started on Lil' Kim or Trina (gag me with a rope)...

Getting off topic here but I heard this on DopeBoyz this morning (I really enjoy their blog because they have great insight to new music that should be heard today) but when I heard this piece:

I couldn't help but think that Nitty Scott sounded an awful lot like One Self:

I personally dig One Self's style a lot more....

Sweet On You

I love Sirius' 'Heart and Soul' station...they are kicking out the jams that I haven't heard in many moon doggies.

If I was serenaded this today, well, you know I'd be under his spell. Haha...those Lo-Key?'s were smooth.

"I don't like much candy in my tummy but I'm sweet on you" - That is all. Do you need any more of a reason to fall in love all over again with this group? What are these dudes up to?

Neo-Soul

I discovered this Amsterdam duo on neosoulcafe.com and felt an instant connection to their beats...not to mention when searching youtube I came across 'She Was Fly' with a guest track appearance from Eric Roberson (Erro), who is one of my favorite R&B singers at this time. I have to give him a lot of respect. He wants to get his hands dirty and work on as many fun projects as he can. Respect.

With that being said, I have to share this link because it does something to me. I feel like I can step outside with my eyes close and be led to you. It touches my very core.

Something For The Weekend

Its already Monday and I want so badly for Friday to arrive. My weekends never consist of a threesome with popped champagne in bed nor in my imaginary flat in NYC. My imagination can't even let it take me to that place but I like this Ben Westbeech guy. Brit musicians tend to have a lasting impression on me. I can't seem to fix my link issue...but here it is: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3mECuK4qUh0&feature=relmfu

No More Drama

I find this song absolutely refreshing right now for the hip hop community. Miranda gives it such a fun sultry and jazz vibe too.

Feel No Pain

Sade...I feel you girl. Mama been laid off. Well, not really. I'm not a mama nor did I get laid off but I am feeling some money woes.

Pump Up The Jams

I got the coolest little package I have ever received: 'The perfect mixtape' just arrived in the mail.

Let me give you a background.

I worked with Katie at my last internship in college at this radio station in Jacksonville. We always bonded over New York City (we both had dreams of moving there - she made hers become a reality and mine just became a distant memory). But we always had music that we could relate to because being that we worked at a Top 40 pop station you hear the same 5 songs on repeat.

We always kept in touch at random times in the past 2 years and then one day she decided that we were going to be music penpals. What a fabulous idea!

Here is what her list includes:

1. The Naked & Famous - Young Blood
2. Grouplove - Colours
3. The National - Bloodbuzz Ohio
4. Foster the People - Pumped Up Kicks
5. Laid Back Ft. Trentemoller - Beautiful Day
6. Cake - Long Time
7. Melody Gardot - Black Night
8. Middle Class Rut - New Low
9. Dr. Dog - Old News
10. Blackbird Blackbird - Hawaii
11. Animal Collective - Fireworks
12. Phantogram - Mouthful of Diamonds
13. Royksopp ft. Trentemoller - WHat Else is There?
14. Noisettes - Never Forget You
15. Oh Land - Sun of a Gun
16. Siriusmo - Einmal in der Wocheschrelen

Aw...NY made a hipster out of her.

I like these songs, some of them are familiar, some not but nonetheless I don't have music ADD today and plan to listen to the CD in all of its entirety.

Now what should I put in her CD?!

The End Never Was

I got to watch a little bit of the movie 'The Switch' - not outstanding or really that memorable, but I quite enjoyed the soundtrack.

Sweet Love

Who sounds as good live as they do in the studio?

The better question to ask is where the hell has she been since 1995!?!??!

No Ordinary Love

OMG!!! I have been searching for this video sometime now. I always put it on the backburner knowing that I needed to find this at some point in my life again...I always asked people "its a late 80s - early 90s looking video with a woman in a wedding dress" and NO ONE knew...I had a Sade day today and there you go!!!!!!

She is a little corny but man, she never disappoints.

You'll Always Know The Reasons Why That Song You Heard Would Stay On Your Mind

Sade has been my (lovers) rock since I was a kid. She was a musician that played in our house often while I was growing up. Someone went through a heavy period of Sade and Enya...Sade stuck with me of course.

I think she has only gotten better with age. I mean, you cannot replace (nor can she herself) 'Smooth Operator' or 'Your Love Is King' but I like the direction she is going in.

Plus, I got 99 problems and Jay-Z ain't one.

Dreamy

One of my more lucid dreams lately involved me with a group of people looking all over Saint Augustine for something and I woke up not to my alarm that morning but instead this song...

Woke Up This Morning, Saw That Spring Had Come

I have definitely wondered how cool it would be to go about my day singing in the streets like it is complete normalcy and I always wanted big hair like Macy Gray and india.arie...

Soul Shaker

I found this group because I was looking on iTunes for some Nicole Willis & The Soul Investigators - she has really captured the soul music movement of the 60's. She is an old soul for sure!

At any rate, please listen to Dojo Cut's version of "Uptight" originally performed by Stevie Wonder. Her voice makes me love this song all over again in a new way. Her voice is buttery smooth.

Reasons

I think I figured it out.

I was a funky soul sister diva dancing on Soul Train before my earthly demise (one of many) and I came back as a white girl with a love for the same soulful grooves with a flat ass. Hey, the soul always lives on.

I think I was at this concert in '82 (for those of you that don't know I came back for another world tour in 87' as Alexandra). In any rate...Philip Bailey is an incredible vocalist - even Maurice White (the frontman) had to step down and give him the stage...I hope you love them just as much as I do.
